The first recorded conversation in the bible was between a woman and a serpent. I know women love to talk but they have to be careful who they hold conversations with, especially if they are married. Married women should be careful when engaging in stimulating and provocative conversations with strangers or someone they do not know and especially with other men. Why, because the woman doesn’t know what the other person’s motive is and by the time they find out, it will be too late. The trap would have been set and as a woman you would have taken the bait. The bible says faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God, Romans 10:7. What that means is that faith in God, comes by hearing the Word of God. Well the fact of the matter is, faith does comes by hearing and it doesn’t matter what you hear. You can hear a lie and believe it. That means someone can speak a lie and if you hear it, you have the options of believing it and there by having faith in what was said or not believe it and doubt what was said. Women are prone to respond to words and especially if the words are flattering but that’s not to say that men are not prone. That old serpent knew just what to say to the woman to get her curiosity up. Once her curiosity was up and she was engaging in the conversation, in other words, she was taking the bait, she began to believe and have faith in what was being said, she was eating from the tree, which were and is the words of the serpent. The bible says, that she ate from the tree. What tree? The tree of knowledge of good and evil. What did she eat? The bible says she at the fruit. What was the fruit? The fruit was the words that was being spoken to her. She believe those words and those words became a part of her being. She digested those words. She was tricked, bamboozled, and hoodwinked. She believed a lie rather than the Word of God. Apparently, she had some knowledge of the Word, because she said, that they could eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden but of the fruit of the trees that are in the midst of the garden, God has said that you shall not eat of it, neither should you touch it, or else you will die, Genesis 3.
Well we know she did not quote God accurately but maybe that’s the man’s fault because it does not appear that the woman was with the man when God told him not to eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. So it seems that the woman was going by what her husband told her or what she believed he said. So she did believe what her husband told her but the serpent came along and was able to persuade her to change her mind. So in essence, what the serpent did was cause her to doubt what she already believed and once doubt crept in, oh it was lights out, a home run, the serpent had accomplished what it was there to do, to draw mankind a way from God.
She took the bait, the seed, the thought was planted in her mind in the form of words and received in her heart, for the bible says that when she saw (how did she saw or see?) (Remember until that time, the man and the woman did not see, for the bible says after the fact, that their eyes were opened and they knew that they were naked.) that the tree was good for food and pleasant to the eyes that she ate. The woman saw by hearing the words spoken by the serpent and believing the words spoken by the serpent. That is when she saw that the tree was good for food and pleasant to the eyes. As the woman believed those words spoken by the serpent her eyes was opened. The serpent’s whole intent was to get man (the man and the woman) to take their focus and attention off and away from God the Father and place it on themselves. This is why the serpent said, you will not die, because God knows that when you eat from this tree your eyes will be open and you will be like gods knowing good and evil. As long as their focus was not on God, the serpent could manipulate them to do anything but if they had kept their focus and attention on God, the serpent would have be helpless and would not have been able to manipulate them.
This is key, because from then until now, mankind is still eating from the tree of knowledge of good and evil and the serpent has been able to keep man’s attention on themselves and not on God. As a matter of fact, the serpent’s whole objective is to get mankind to doubt God, disregard God, forget about God, and to doubt that God even exist. The serpent knows that as long as mankind’s focus and attention is on themselves then mankind will be under its rule and authority. The serpent has been key in getting mankind to blame God for all the problems in the world. The serpent only want mankind thinking about me, me, me, what’s in it for me.
As believers we must come to the conclusion that if all we have left is God, we have all that we need. The bible says that man’s life does not consist in the abundance of things that he possess. There is nothing in this world that can be compared to our salvation in Jesus Christ and there is nothing more valuable.
If you are a non-believer or weak in your faith, from all indications what you see with your eyes that are going on in the world today, it may appear that the serpent may have been successful or is succeeding, but looks can be deceiving. Jesus has said that upon this rock, He would build his church and the gates of hell would not prevail. Some may say, that it seems like the gates of hell are prevailing and that’s because they are looking with their natural eyes. However, if you are of God and know and believe the Word of God, you can see with your spiritual eyes that we’ve already won the battle and victory is the Lord’s and we are eating from the tree of life, which is Jesus Christ, the risen Savior of the world.
